Directions

  • Set up your heat press by preheating it to the temperature recommended for your specific blank, usually between 375–400°F (190–205°C). Adjust the pressure settings and timer according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the sublimation paper and blank you’re using. Place the blank and sublimation paper in the heat press, ensuring the design is positioned correctly. Cover the paper with a protective sheet, such as a Teflon sheet or parchment paper, to prevent ink from transferring onto the heat press.
  • Next, prepare the blank surface you’ll be sublimating onto. Make sure the item is sublimation-ready, such as polyester shirts, coated mugs, or specific ceramic blanks. Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any dust, lint, or oil, as these can interfere with the transfer. Once the blank is ready, cut out your design from the sublimation paper and position it design-side down on the surface. Secure it with heat-resistant tape if necessary to prevent shifting during the transfer process.
  • Close the heat press and apply heat for the recommended amount of time. Once the timer ends, carefully open the press and remove the item. Use heat-resistant gloves if necessary, as the blank will be hot. Allow it to cool slightly before peeling off the sublimation paper to reveal your transferred design. For garments, it’s best to wait at least 24 hours before washing to ensure the design fully sets. By following these steps and adjusting for the specific materials you’re using, you can achieve vibrant and durable sublimated designs.
  • For the best results with sublimation, always follow the recommended temperature, time, and pressure settings specific to your sublimation paper and blank. Ensure your design is mirrored before printing, and use sublimation ink for vibrant and accurate transfers. Keep the blank surface clean and free of dust, lint, or oils to avoid imperfections in the final design. Secure the sublimation paper with heat-resistant tape to prevent shifting during pressing, and use a protective sheet, such as a Teflon sheet, to protect your heat press. If you're trying a new blank or design, test your settings on a sample piece first to fine-tune the process. Store sublimation paper in a cool, dry place to preserve its quality, and for garments, allow the design to set for at least 24 hours before washing. Following these tips can ensure your sublimated designs are vibrant, durable, and professional-looking.

Materials & Care

  • Sublimation paper is made from standard paper with a special polymer coating that holds sublimation ink on the surface. This coating allows the ink to transfer fully onto a sublimation-ready surface when heat and pressure are applied. It ensures sharp, vibrant designs without the ink soaking into the paper fibers.
