Directions
  • Prepare Your HTV Design: Create or select your design using graphic design software compatible with your cutting machine. Ensure the design is mirrored before cutting, as HTV is applied in reverse.
  • Cut the Vinyl: Place the HTV shiny-side down on the cutting mat (carrier sheet facing down) and load it into your cutting machine. Adjust your machine settings according to the type of vinyl you are using. Perform a test cut if necessary to ensure the blade depth is correct.
  • Weed the Design: After cutting, carefully remove the excess vinyl using a weeding tool, leaving only the parts of the design you want to transfer.
  • Prepare the Fabric: Preheat your heat press or iron to the temperature recommended for your HTV and fabric type. Lightly press the fabric to remove any wrinkles or moisture, creating a smooth surface for application.
  • Position the Design: Place the weeded HTV design onto the fabric with the shiny carrier sheet facing up. Adjust its position as needed.
  • Apply Heat and Pressure: Use a heat press or an iron to transfer the design onto the fabric. Apply firm, even pressure at the recommended temperature and time for your HTV. Avoid sliding the iron or heat press, as this can cause the design to shift.
  • Peel the Carrier Sheet: After pressing, allow the vinyl to cool slightly or completely, depending on whether your HTV is hot- or cold-peel. Carefully remove the carrier sheet, ensuring the vinyl has adhered properly to the fabric.
  • Set the Design: For added durability, you can press the design again with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper covering it for a few seconds.
  • Your heat transfer vinyl design is now complete and ready to wear or display! For best results, wait at least 24 hours before washing the fabric, and wash inside out on a gentle cycle to maintain the design’s longevity.
Materials & Care
  • Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) consists of a thin layer of vinyl that bonds to fabrics when heat and pressure are applied, available in various finishes such as matte, glossy, glitter, metallic, and patterned. Beneath the vinyl layer is a heat-activated adhesive that ensures a strong bond with fabric surfaces. The clear, shiny carrier sheet on top protects the design during the transfer process and provides structure for precise cutting and placement.
  • To ensure the longevity of your heat transfer vinyl design, allow it to set for at least 24 hours before washing the fabric for the first time. When washing, turn the garment inside out to minimize friction and protect the design. Use cold or warm water on a gentle cycle, avoiding bleach or harsh detergents that can damage the vinyl. For drying, air drying is recommended, but if using a dryer, choose a low heat setting to prevent peeling or warping. If ironing is needed, always place a cloth or Teflon sheet over the design to shield it from direct heat.

Good To Know

  • HTV works best on cotton, polyester, poly-cotton blends, and other heat-tolerant fabrics. Some specialty HTV can also adhere to leather and certain synthetic materials.
  • HTV works on wood, ceramic, metal, and glass surfaces, as long as they are designed to withstand the necessary heat temperatures.
